Religion has been used as a tuning fork to adjust the vibrations of an individual life to the rhythms of the cosmos. Whether we use meditation, dice, prayer, daisy petals, or astrology, each of us has some way of keeping in touch with the governing rhythms of the world.
How do you stay together with the basic rhythms of your psyche and nature?
What cycles do you experience in your body that are responsive to the moon or the seasons?
What do you do when you are out of sync, when everything’s going wrong, when you get up on the wrong side of the bed, when you can’t get it together?
What lucky objects protect you against the irrationality of the world? (A crystal or stone, four-leaf clover, St. Christopher medal, a favorite shirt?) Do you depend on them? What would you do if you lost one of them?
What rituals do you have for warding off bad luck? (Crossing yourself, knocking on wood, avoiding ladders and stepping over cracks, throwing salt over your shoulder?)
